Jeep Launches a Charging Network for EV Off-Roading
Over the next few months, Jeep will be installing Level 2 charging stations at trailheads across the U.S. This project was born from the understanding that Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe drivers want to conquer the trail in EV mode. As a result, the company says it will launch a network of Level 2 charging stations at off-road trailheads across the country over the next 12 months to help EV and plug-in hybrid owners test their cars' limits.
Where are the Jeep Charging stations located?
The project will start with stations this spring at three of the most popular Jeep trails: Moab, Utah; the Rubicon Trail in Pollock Pines, California; and Big Bear, California. Then, over the next year, more stations will open up at Jeep's Badge of Honor trails, 56 trails scattered across the country that Jeep has highlighted as part of an app-based rewards program. Drivers can use the Badge of Honor app to see trail maps, information, highlights, difficulty ratings, and user photos.
How Fast are Jeep Charging Station Charge?
The charging stations will be operated by Electrify America and will consist of Level 2 chargers capable of recharging the 4xe powertrain's 17.0-kWh battery pack from empty in roughly two hours. The stations will be available to the general public, but Jeep 4xe owners can charge for free via an Electrify America mobile phone app.
