Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Returns

Dodge has launched their seventh and final "Last Call" special-edition model, the Challenger SRT Demon. This new Challenger SRT Demon is the world's fastest and most powerful muscle car, with 1,025 horsepower. Dodge unveiled this outstanding powerful Challenger at the Roadkill Nights Vegas performance festival at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Roadkill Nights is a popular event that draws spectators and racers from all over the United States and Canada. The event features drag racing, the Cruise-In area, Dodge Thrill Rides, the Demon driving simulators, and an array of the latest Dodge vehicles.

The Most Powerful Muscle Car in the World

The Challenger SRT Demon is a Dodge special-edition vehicle like none other, as the quickest vehicle ever produced in the brand's 100-plus-year history. The Challenger SRT Demon 170 is the first factory production car to run the quarter-mile under nine seconds with a National Hot Rod Association-certified 8.91-second at 151.17 mph. On the drag strip, the Challenger SRT Demon 170 receives an NHRA violation letter for running a sub-nine-second quarter-mile without a safety cage or parachute, following in the footsteps of the original Demon, which was also banned from NHRA quarter miles.

The Original Dodge Demon

When Dodge introduced the Dart nameplate in the 1960s, it was intended to feature on an economy car for the American masses. But by the decade's end, the population wanted to be behind the wheel of a two-door fastback, as muscle cars were becoming all the rage. So, with the Charger, Challenger, and Daytona sales skyrocketing, Dodge decided to cash in on the trend by adding the Dart to the mix. For a brief period of two years, 1971-1972, the hardworking American could buy a 275 horsepower Dart Demon 340.

First-ever Factory Produced 1,025-horsepower HEMI Engine

Dodge created the 1,025-horsepower Demon 170, the world's first sustainable-energy, eight-second, factory-production, street-legal muscle car to celebrate the end of the HEMI muscle-car era. Dodge has upgraded almost every primary engine power component of the 6.2-liter high-output supercharged HEMI engine. Dodge started with the Direct Connection Hellephant C170 crate engine and then went to town on upgrades. They upgraded it with a 3.0L Supercharger that delivers a 40% increase in boost pressure, taking the Demon 170 to 21.3psi with 30% more airflow. The engine's high-flow fuel injectors can provide 164 gallons per hour. Cylinder pressure was increased 32% higher than the Hellcat Redeye Widebody, measuring 2,500psi on E85 fuel.

Doubling Down on Durability

Driveline components of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 have also been reinforced, including a rear prop shaft that is 30% stronger within the same packaging space. Aerospace-grade metals were put to work in the reinforced, 53% stronger rear axle housing, which features a new Direct Connection logo integrated into the housing structure. Inboard and outboard CV joints are designed with larger inner-connecting splines and revised heat treatment; the interconnecting shaft is upgraded to a larger diameter shaft with larger joint splines and optimized stiffness for acceleration performance.
